MADE Architecture were given the opportunity to design a mixed-use community development compromising a school, community centre, a Mosque, commercial and residential units in the heart of Sparkbrook, Birmingham. The aim of this development is to create a community hub which is safe, welcoming and provides multiple facilities for the local community.
In Detail
The site is located on a busy and popular junction in Sparkbrook, creating the opportunity to create a landmark building. The whole development was designed in a contemporary style, including the Mosque, which has a geometric patterned facade, which echoes traditional Islamic design. The facade of Mosque consists of two metal skins with geometric patterns in contrasting colours to show varying colours in different light. As well as providing shading and a privacy screening, the apertures of the skin allow beams of light to enter the internal spaces, creating a spiritual atmosphere.
The proposed development was welcomed and supported by Birmingham City Council Planning as this would assist in the regeneration of Sparkbrook and create an attractive and safer
environment for all.
