MADE Architecture currently have a planning application in with Birmingham City Council to convert the grade II listed former Powells Gun Shop to luxury residential apartments. Located on Carrs Lane, on a key route between Birmingham Moore Street and The Bull Ring, the proposals will contribute to the regeneration of the area which is earmarked for a public realm regeneration scheme linked to HS2.
The ground floor is to accommodate a commercial unit, benefitting from good frontage on the key pedestrian route. The upper floors will accommodate 12 apartments. MADE have worked effortlessly with the heritage consultants, conservation officer and planning officer to ensure that the historic fabric of the building is not only maintained but enhanced.
The proposals look to reinstate a cantilevered winder stair, retain the exposed brickwork in the rear warehouse and make a feature of the original riffle test tube, to commemorate and celebrate the use of the building.
